The funniest thing on these lists is always Bill Russell being ranked but rarely getting talked about.
Smartest player that ever played the game. Now I know why my goat always:russell:'ed at you brehs:mjlol:
Lack of high end offensive skill will crush you with many NBA fans

Two point guards have been the best player on a championship team in the last 30 years

Curry,Zeke ..that shyt is damn near impossible to do and has to matter. Little men aren’t supposed to do that

You can stretch it to say Billups in 04 and TP in one of those later years was the best on their squad

Yeah.

Zeke is the best scoring PG OAT.
He is Chris Paul, except he won chit and wasn’t a flopper.

If Magic is in GOAT tier why not Timmy? :lupe:

Same number of rings, same number of Finals MVP's, both considered best at their respective position.

Magic has 1 more MVP though
Magic doesn't get enough credit for the Once in a lifetime accomplishment of winning a ring as a rookie. Most rookie no matter how great are not ready to deliver on that big of a stage that early in their career. People say Kareem deserved the FMVP because he was the best player in 4 of the games he played. But ultimately magic was the one that delivered in the final two games and i think that alone puts him over Duncan.
Who comparatively was in a similar situation with an aging MVP caliber player on the roster in his early career but didn't win until year 2.

I can see Magic being better, but I disagree with Magic being on a different tier than Larry.

The perception gap between them that has formed post careers is fascinating.

Magic was more athletic, looked better in highlight reels.

You actually had to watch full games to understand how good Bird was.

This tier list is pretty good but it's always going to be tough to compare players from different eras.

How do you compare Jerry West to Lebron? What more could Bill Russell have done in his career that would have gotten him to top tier?

To me, if you were considered the GOAT during your career you have to be in the GOAT tier.

So, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlin, Kareem, Jordan, and Lebron would be in the top tier.

I would move Magic down to 1A.

The rest of the list is fine, no glaring issues.

Magic always gets a free pass for being an underwhleming defender,.for some reason. While Timmy is an ATG in that category. How she would rate them. Maybe on.an A+ scale
Offense-A+
Defense B
Accolades A
Clutch A
Winning A
Longevity C-
Example Bird

Kobe
Hakeem
Steph

Tier 5 - Ring or two, but never got to Tier 4 level:
KG

Isiah Thomas
Dr. J
Moses

Tier 6 - Another FMVP will vault them into Tier 4, otherwise they’ll settle into Tier 5:
Jokic
Giannis

Tier 7: got an MVP and had a productive career, but no ring:
Barkley
Mailman

Honestly, nothing. Magic and Bird are like a married couple to me. I would even put them in their own tier. The Magic and Bird tier
The same thing can be said of a Wilt/Russell tier, and a Shaq/Kobe/Duncan tier. So with tgus blueprint, you could have, listing in order of when these guys' careers ended:

GOAT TIER
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Michael Jordan
LeBron James

The three guys with the strongest, most legitimate claims for being considered the greatest basketball player ever...

TRIPLE OG TIER
Bill Russell
Wilt Chamberlain

The two original guys who were given the mantle of greatest basketball player ever...

THE "I HAVE A SOLID CASE" TIER
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson

Both of these guys got play as greatest player ever, at some point during their careers. You can make the case that they've been surpassed by guys in the following tier, but these guys have and had real cases...

00s OGs TIER
Shaquille O'Neal
Kobe Bryant
Tim Duncan

Nobody seriously argues that these guys have strong "greatest player ever" cases, though Kobe clearly has always had the popularity and largest fan base of the three. Nevertheless, all three are consensus Top 10, though for how much longer, is in question...

I actually am warming up to this tier system of GOAT list!
Yeah.

Zeke is the best scoring PG OAT.
He is Chris Paul, except he won chit and wasn’t a flopper.
Steph or Oscar or West are the greatest scoring points ever and honestly, no one is close to them...
To me, if you were considered the GOAT during your career you have to be in the GOAT tier.
I like this premise. If that's the case though, it's a 7-man GOAT TIER. Magic and Bird were thrown in that light in their playing careers...

There's nobody on the same tier as Jordan.

I would slide LeBron to Tier 2.. Kobe tier 2...
and the rest Tier 3 and below

It's debatable. We've had the debates on here. It's been had on TV. It's been had in sports journals...

The consensus leans that he is a GOAT 10 guy, but the consensus is also that he's not a "lock" GOAT 10 guy...

Kobe has always been debatable, we as a Basketball Culture debated this in real time during his life. He got a super boost from many people in this conversation, post death...

This is a false statement.... Kobe had a god damn sold out goodbye tour pre-death.... u actin like Kobe was Nipsey and got praised only after death...
He was always considered THEEE best player or Top 3 in the league for 15+ years.

Is Kobe the best player since MJ?

etc

Why do y'all Kobe stans continually to revise history as if this period wasn't that long ago?

Those Lakers squads were some of the most talented during that time.

Pau was one of the best big men in the league before he got to LA. To use the fact he didn't make an All-NBA team and was only an All-Star, once, is lazy ass analysis. A lot of that had to do with him being on a bad team and didn't get much publicity in Memphis, not that it was a reflection on his actual ability.

This team would've won 12 games without Kobe :mjlol:
