Hoyer is a backup. His numbers were pretty bad and the Browns won in spite of him.

2014 he put up 3300 yards 12 TDs 13 Int and 55% completion. There really isn't anything starting quality about that

which would make sense if they didn't replace him with josh mccown who put up worse numbers, is considerably older and is getting paid more than what hoyer got from the texans
