There is the criminal case, which I think took awhile because the cops and district attorney wanted to get the whole case squared away to make sure they can present a winnable case, and then there is the civil cases from the deceased relatives and injured victim. I hope he loses the civil cases and criminal case.
If he dies, he dies.

Gay rights group can't do anything in the court room. They might be able to pay for a high dollar attorney. Still, if the DA's office has a good case, they can try to get him in jail for a couple of months. Enough time for him to be off the estrogen meds so he can grow a beard and chest hairs.
