Nicki's pop venture was a failure. Nicki is a pop act in the rap world

B.o.B.'s Pop songs all made him look like he was the featured artist and not the other way around. Remember, Bruno Mars blew up off "Nothin' On You". Granted, Bruno Mars dropped several hits after that song, but so did B.o.B. The difference is that B.o.B.'s hits after "Nothin' On You" had Pop features. "Good Life" is his only solo song to perform well.

With Nicki, her mistake was announcing that she was going Pop. She made a deal out of going the Pop route instead of progressing or growing into it. She could've at least did it without making it obvious. It didn't help that she was doing songs that were more Katy Perry than Nicki. Songs like "Super Bass" were songs that would've gotten her the Pop love without alienating people who liked hearing her rap.
