In some fukked up way, him getting injured was a blessing in disguise. His title reign was already off to a bad start with the Kane feud, and Cena getting squashed at SummerSlam made Lesnar look like a way bigger deal. If Bryan lasted that long, it could have ended up being one of the WOAT title reigns.

He wasnt. He proved that by being given his chance and backyard wrestling himself into injury over and over while on top.

Guy came back from a neck\head injury throwing headbutts day one and landing on bis head over and over.

Guys like him critiscize top guys for not working hard yet he got his wakeup call like they all had (eddie g) when the belts on and its time to run and be the guy who reps the company… HE couldn't keep up.

It's an interesting "what if" scenario.

The Kane feud was fukking horrible and you could tell the booking was going to reek of pathetic babyface that barely survives his matches and gets beat up all the time in the build up to his title defenses.

But that kind of fukked up booking was precisely the thing that made Bryan break through and get ridiculously over because fans perceived it as the company sabotaging a loved performer. So what happens if he gets shytty booking -like any top babyface was booked under Vince in those days- all the way up to Summerslam and then gets squashed? Do the fans finally give up on D-Bry or do they once again start hijacking matches and not letting programs go as scheduled?

I honestly don't know. I could see both things happening as fans would've grown tired and disenchanted over a disappointing title reign. But on the other hand, they kept hijacking matches with D-Bry and other wrestlers for the next 4-5 years after WM XXX so maybe they would've kept at it after the Brock squash :bryan:

Yeah, the fact that him getting eliminated from the Rumble got such a visceral reaction meant that the fans weren't tired of him yet. They still wanted him in that spot. When he faced Reigns at Fastlane, it was the same thing. I'm glad he was given a second chance in 2018 and had a proper title reign that benefited everyone.

Bryan wasn't a vanilla midget, he could cut a great promo. He got himself over with that and his in-ring wrestling ability. The hot tags he'd do with Kane received some of the loudest cheers of the evening week after week. Vince could be talked into changing course if he saw dollar signs but he was still stubborn and would try everything to prove the fans "wrong"

I don’t know if this is a good argument as to why Bryan shouldn’t be a top guy.

Can we have the discussion that Vince never organically created a single star that could draw money for his company?

Hogan- Poached from AWA and was a star before his second wwf run
Macho Man- Star before signing
Austin- Put him as a midcarder with Ted Welfare stealing dollar man dibiase before Austin had to come up with his own character
Rocky- Corny blue chipper babyface gimmick. Had that man coming to the ring with a pineapple Jheri curl and sonic green hill zone level gear. Rock had to come up with his own gimmick
Cena- Was about to get cut before Steph heard him rap. More credit goes to her than Vince
Reigns- threatened to leave after getting hog slopped like it was 1996. Came up with his own gimmick

Business went up when he was the top guy compared to when the Rebel was champion and pushed on top..until that Rock match at Rumble 2013.

It all comes done to Vince's unwillingness to put the "WWE machine" behind anyone that wasn't his hand picked guy. In Danielson's case he had a big thing going against him: the crowd reacted more and louder when he was fukked by bad booking, so Vince was like :blessed: knowing he could make people mad and they'd still cheer the underdog. This was a bad lesson he "learned", as Cokeboy made it a thing for the next 6 years to put his crowd against the company thinking that would make a star :dead:
