ALBANY – The start of any negotiations involving a complex deal whose end product could be expensive, impactful and controversial can be an anxious time.

It’s an anxious time right now in Buffalo and at the State Capitol in Albany.

Preliminary talks have begun between the owners of the Buffalo Bills, the State of New York and Erie County as officials consider a pitch by the team to build a new NFL stadium.

In fact, it’s one of the largest asks for public money in pro sports stadium negotiations: Pegula Sports and Entertainment, the team’s owners, have pitched a $1.5 billion proposal for a new stadium in Orchard Park and to help cover some renovation costs to the Pegulas' NHL Sabres arena in downtown Buffalo.
The public would provide an unprecedented 100%, according to multiple sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the high sensitivity of the early stage of negotiations.

This much, according to interviews with a number of key individuals in the past couple of weeks, is known, all of which is subject to change over the coming weeks and months as negotiations get more real:

• The team has floated to state and county officials an initial ask that the public pay all the costs for what will be, as is the current stadium, a county-owned facility. In Albany, the idea of such a payment scheme is a non-starter.

• A new stadium – that multiple sources say is expected to be built in Orchard Park adjacent to the team’s existing facility so that there would be no need to temporarily relocate to another city during a multiple-year construction effort – would cost at least $1.1 billion, with the remaining several hundred million dollars of the requested package earmarked for renovations at the Sabres’ KeyBank Center

And they trying to use moving to Austin as a bargaining chip but anybody with any sense know there will never be another team in Texas and especially one in driving distance to Jerry Jones :russ:

this happens all the time...teams threaten to leave if the city refuses to buy their stadium...I remember this happening with the Eagles about 20 years ago

and I have NO problem with that...:sas1:....but....the "public" should also keep ALL profits made by the stadium as well. :sas2:

For a few years I heard it was gonna be a dome stadium built in downtown buffalo right on lake Erie to be able to host other events during the off season. Cause the current stadium basically just sits there not being used until NFL starts the season.

The 100 percent tax payer funded not happening at all and if he moved the team out of buffalo, They legit would murder that dude. His wife Kim is from western new york so she not even going for that at all. They was trying to play that game and bully for a stadium and threaten to move to Toronto but that's a no go. All them Toronto games to gauge the market and they see the Canadians didn't support it like that.

If they move anywhere else they would lose they whole fanbase. I mean legit the team is a part of the community and the community supports it and keeps them going even when they was trash for years on end.

Not even a chance they would move. Come up with the money another way dunny or come out of your own pocket cause I'm sure he been eating good these last few years with the team.
