I just changed careers, getting a job my resume would not indicate I'm at all qualified for. I'm an engineer and I just landed a gig as a data analyst. Been interviewing for a few months, getting nibbles but no bites. These were all internal positions. After each interview though I would ask the hiring manager if they would recommend me for my next position. After 3-4 interviews and other connections I made, I damn near had an army of people looking out for me and thinking about me. One of the hiring managers reached out to me about a position they hadn't even posted yet. I ran through the interview rounds and shyt and got the gig.
shyt all really started with a conversation.... I got up with people in the departments doing what I wanted to do and just told them I wanted in. One dude took me under his wing and plugged me with some connects and it all went from there. I have been applying for jobs outside but my resume is shyt for the field I'm in. But once I get to talk to people I can sell my abilities and demonstrate my qualifications. shyt is key, especially in large organizations as companies are more willing to hire internally and have a wide range of functions and positions available. Just wanted to share my experience
