i went to college for 4 years (more like 6 because partying > studying)
took out student loans, got a job, and im now starting to pay the student loans off
i was all proud of myself and shyt, look ma! i put my mind to something and i did it! look at me now!
hell yeah! i was really feelin myself. but, its an entry level job, so you know, the pay is... ok
more than i was making, but now that i have to pay off the student loans, not as much as id like to be making
so heres my beef. back in the day, you were told "do good in school or you'll end up working at mcdonalds!"
but by the year 2020, MINIMUM WAGE IS GOING UP TO $15 AN HOUR!
dafuq!? now its "fukk school, gimme the job at mcdonalds! these dudes making BANK and dont have any student loans to pay off!"
shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, might as well just drop out of highschool and get a head start, you might be a damn manager by the time your peers graduate and enter the workforce.
look, im not saying that mcdonalds is rock bottom, a job is a job, but where is the incentive to be anything else if you just keep raising the minimum wage?

back in my day, McDonald's was only the hustle for high schoolers looking for a little spending money. Imo it was NEVER meant to be a main gig. There's only one person I know who stayed after high school and she's now a regional manager. Shyt is burning her soul that entry level burger flippers are getting closer to her pay bracket after she busted her ass for 16 years

if you live in New York( where i am) $15 a hour wont be enough to have a decnt place unless you wanna live in the hood
But im not sure if this will be statewide if so then move down somewhere where living is cheap (Houston,ATL etc...) then you prob will live ok...not great but OK

That's just barely a livable wage in NY. Also it doesn't mean that McDonald's employees will be working full-time hours at those rates. Regardless the whole system is messed up. Inflation and cost of living has been increasing while the wages were not catching up. This isn't gonna suddenly create a new middle class
