This is part of the reason why these countries do these things. Because a lot of gay people tend to be more western aligned anyways. It's also to discourage sexual tourism by old white men. Old white women are an issue as well but especially gay fukkers have some actual backing and are willing to bring about changes that may not be in the best interests of the country.

Ultimately though, they see it as deviant and just plain weird and it give the government an easy win in the eyes of the people.
