FACT
During precolonial times, the “mudoko dako,” or effeminate males among the Langi were treated as women and could marry men.
It is actually the Bazungu who outlawed homosexuality in 1902. Could they have outlawed something that did not exist here?
[Quoted tweet]
We say NO to homosexuality and that won't change regardless of pressure from the bazungu

@DanielLutaaya
There's history of homosexuality in Uganda & Africa that predates the arrival of any white man. Even before Mapeera came to teach us Christianity. Infact, it is widely accepted that one of our most famous Kings was Bisexual. So I doubt the Bazungu are forcing anything on us.
3/29
@DanielLutaaya
These things have been here longer than the Bazungu have known us.
These are facts; If you want to argue them, bring your own facts.
4/29
@solomonbatte19
Homosexuality was here long before the whites came but it was always condemned in our societies just like you see incest
5/29
@DanielLutaaya
We had almighty kings, For us in Buganda if something was condemned, it was condemned by the King or Kings men and you would die for it. White people wouldn't have found any homos in Africa if our African Traditional societies condemned it. All homos would have been dead.

@AllysonsJoe
This example is often used as justification.. however, there's no evidence that homo stuff was welcome or revered. That's pretty much what people like you are asking us to do. Could colonialists have manipulated our history so hard that such evidence disappeared?
7/29
@DanielLutaaya
Yes, they manipulated our history so much. Alot of it disappeared.
Read Apollo Makubuya's "Protection,Patronage or Plunder" you will understand that the history you know about Africa is deeply edited.
Did you know Baganda were doing c sections in 1879

@LumuApollo
I miss the days when Ugandans could take on a topic , discuss and evaluate it with FACTS , but now FEAR AND VIOLENCE have hijacked reason and healthy debate , that's why you see good people keeping quiet and making space for the tambourines to flourish. We need smart talk !!!!

@DouglasOtoo1
Daniel, Lango is Lango ..... when many, we are Lango and when one person, is also Lango ..... nothing exist as Langi!
10/29
@XavierOgena
Uganda’s indigenous languages, including Lango, have words for effeminate man or masculine woman, suggesting there were at least ‘closet’ homosexual people during precolonial times: in any case, D. A. Low, BUGANDA IN MODERN HISTORY, claims Ssekabaka Mwanga was at least bisexual.

@SOLOOOOOOOOOO
Also heard something about the uganda matyrs nayeeee let me keep my mouth shut
12/29
@obba_jerry
In Leb Lango we don't even have a verb for homosexual .I am hearing this mudoko dako for the first time.Any adult Langi will tell you it even sounds strange, anyway I realise gay activism pays well.
13/29
@B_Kenyi
Whatever it is.. that rubbish shouldn't have a place in our society, even if it was here before the bazungu (according to those stated facts), they are the very guys pushing it hard... and empowering it
14/29
@Rich_In_Christ_
It existing during pre-colonial times,does it make it a normal thing?
15/29
@EmmanuelEkeesit
Hi Daniel. The thing you allude is actually not completely factual. Dr Sylivia Tamale did a study on it and you are just quoting part of it. You should familiarise yourself with her book "Decolonizing feminism". The part you are quoting needs some contexts.

@oks1a
I assume you're talking Lango people.
Do you have any literature to back up this?

@Emma506131772
Mwanga too was gay or should I say bisexual
Those who wrote the story of Uganda martyrs wrote that nikka used to.....
Let me stop there

This must be a visa defense tweet.

@frank_eko
Sin is still in the world, does it mean the Bible didn't or doesn't condemn it?
In my UG community were I come from, homos were stoned to death, or sticks shoved up their ass before they're killed!
Too much for ATS didn't condemn it??!!!

@Maiallan01
Guy is talking about the same history written by a white man that bit of a 'bisexual King' we all know who you referring too but doesn't it worry u some how that the same people that condemned it that is if it was true are now the champions behind it....that's the irony .

@MarkOtile
There is nothing new you have told us. Is there anyone refuting it's existence the Bible days? Address yourself to what we are facing currently. Be proud of your stand point.
26/29
@MageroAbraham
True homosexuality has been here with us for longer than even 1902, even in the bible during the times of Sodom & Gomorah but one thing is clear...it has always been an evil! The debate should not be on how long it has been here but about whether it's okay or not
27/29
@EzraKisakye1
Child marriages, fgm, and a plethora of indegenous cultural practices have since become illegal under our law. Just because it was traditional practice does not mean it should remain so. "It has been here long b4 bazungu" is not a good line of argument.
28/29
@SmartBusinessFx
And just say you support homosexuality instead of beating around the bush…
29/29
@SmartBusinessFx

you know that just because it’s documented doesn’t mean it’s fact…
