I am getting serious about going into business for myself. I've never actually taken a course on entrepreneurship and I have ABSOLUTELY no clue on how to run a business.

So I am making this thread for actual business owners or prospective owners to drop knowledge. If you have any resources on not only to START a business but RUN a business drop em here.

Peace breh, congrats on embarking upon what will be a challenging journey that will allow you to learn a lot! It is a journey that can be rewarding and offer you a greater sense of fulfillment.

I have professional experience in business, took courses in college, and have engaged in extracurricular study of different areas of business. I'm also the founder and owner of Cream Scheme, a new streetwear apparel brand that speaks to the reality that everyone has a scheme to make cream (money), from street hustlers to musicians to bankers and CEOs. More info in my signature - much appreciation if you check us out, follow us on social media, and/or cop some shirts!

For starters, it'd be great for you to regularly read Entrepreneur and Inc. Both magazines offer great content that will get you thinking about issues in business and what types of things you have to consider as a business owner. Reading general business publications like the Economist and the Wall Street Journal will also help build your business acumen.

This next step may be unconventional, but it will help you tremendously. I went through recruiting for consulting in college and used Victor Cheng's materials to help me prepare. Use his free videos on YouTube here: . These will help you think through problems as a business owner.

What type of business are you looking to start, @TheReckoning?

I am looking to one day start an investment firm. Thanks a lot of the material. Feel free to post your material for your business. I want this thread to not only serve as a learning tool and discussion but as a means so market your business. Have you've ever heard of the magazine Black Enterprise and Financial Juneteenth by Dr. Boyce Watkins?
What would you say was the most difficult skill you had to learn to help get your business off the ground? What is the most valuable?

Okay, dope! Do you have a finance background? I'm looking for ways to build an equity research (+ a few other things) firm.

Haha yes I've heard of Black Enterprise, its one of the pillars for Black magazines and probably THE pillar for Black biz mags. And Financial Juneteenth has some good content.

My skill with research has been my most valuable so far - you have to know your market and your competition, and both are constantly changing, even if the changes are minute day to day (those small changes add up over time!)

The most difficult skill I've had to learn? Right now I have to say the answer to that is up in the air. One thing that has been a challenge is working to understand every part of the supply chain and production & experience process - in my case, in apparel, it's thinking about every step from materials sourcing to production to processing to when the customer opens up their package (and even after with customer service followups, return and exchange policy, etc.). If you ask me this question in a year, I'm sure it will be different. You'll learn every day being a business owner, and you'll learn quickly too (if you aim to stay in business at least ).

You don't have many business owners here. . . many of the consistent posters here are anti-business
