Swizz also used samples and early on Casio sued him because he was using some presets in his beats. For example, "Down Bottom" has a preset that he added drums to.
That's a myth, he used a Roland and they didn't sue him cause these sounds were made for sampling and manipulating.

Best Beat I Ever Heard By Swizz And I’m Thinking That The Reason I Like It Is The 40 Influence

That Beat Breakdown At 2:45 :wow:

This is mine and we didn't even get the whole song smh. I actually didn't mind the Swizz vocals on this which is rare.

I can’t believe Nas bothered making music with dude.
Woah hold on, Swizz did make this though?

I'm just tired of the nikka talking on his beats. He ruined some of his best beats with that shyt when they are actually great.

Wow. Thanks for posting this because I remember the story about Swizz getting sued in 1999. Never knew that it was one big lie. Found an article with Swizz talking about it and saying he never used a Casio. It really puts this whole "Casio era" thing into perspective.

I don't get the Swizz hate. He's a legendary producer. Ya'll act like dude is heralded as a GOAT producer, when he's not. Then again, I get it, a lot of this board has a strong bias against production that isn't boom bap or sample heavy. And its quite obvious because you see people refer to it as the "Casio sound" and instead simply saying they don't like it, they sell it as "it didn't age well". Quite honestly, its why this board has a negative view of Jay's Vol. 2 and to a lesser extent Nas's I Am... or at least the retail version of the album as people still run with the lie that The Source gave the nonexistent double album a 4.5 mic rating.
I don't think the board has anything against non-boom nap/sampled beats cause half the board get bored by the artists that use them and say it's due to subpar production. I do admit the 98 Casio sound of Vol.2 is a big part of why I don't really fukk with it but I do fukk with I Am more though I wasn't of age in real time.

People on here actually praised Mike Will and Mistard for "legendary runs" when Swizz actually had all these joints in rotation at the same time:

Jay Z- Jigga My nikka
Eve- What Ya'll Want
Eve- Gotta Man
Jay Z- Girl's Best Friend
Drag-On- Down Bottom
Eve- Love Is Blind

^^^ I might be missing some, but Spring '99 through Winter '99, Swizz was killing it. While he never had that kind of a run again, what he was doing in Summer 1998 and especially in 1999 was crazy.

The only one of these songs that gets any type of reaction today is Down Bottom. Hell...even 1 year later.....and Girl's Best Friend is a forgotten Jay-Z song.

I think that his legendary run is really based on placement, not necessarily the beats being anything spectacular. He was the most known producer in a camp that was #1 at that time. He could throw anything out at that time and it be a hit.
