Was this the one where they already had him on a felony warrant and they showed cam footage of him being searched and the drugs coming out his pocket? Or was that another story? Why would they try to bag him for a misdemeanor when they already had him for a felony hit and run? No reason to plant the drugs. Not to mention misdemeanor offenses are catch and release. And no mention of the loaded gun he had in the trunk? Crooked cops exist but this isn't one.

Its a waste of resources to plant evidence, on a dude that was just busted for hit & run (big fat ?).
Now EVERYTHING the cops do (rightfully so) will be heavily looked at.

You don't know whether his gun is registered or not. Whether he had a license or not. Whether he ever actually owned a gun or not. Cops keep guns and drugs on them routinely to plant. It's not even a question. They do. If coke was in his wallet, it wouldn't have fell out. They had it and dropped it near his belongings. Protocol would have the business officer verbally call out that he found coke during the body search if it was true. Therefore, the security officer would not have needed to ask and gesture if this is the guys drugs, nor would he be required to put it BACK inside the wallet for evidence. Possession bag and evidence bags are two separate bags. He did that to over imply that the planted drugs were in his possession.

And a misdemeanor can be upgraded for several reasons. Such as involving a firearm or having a certain amount of cash on hand with the possession. Misdemeanors can also get you taken to the station even if it's a ticketed offense. Thats at the officers discretion.
