Giants showed a lot right here by giving the kid his due 3 years before he was up for Free Agency.
They are basically parlaying Zito's salary for the absolute fan favorite and the MVP of the National League. They basically compensated him for services rendered and made sure the last few years of his deal when he's in his supposed "prime" are contained at a manageable number... if they let him hit FA, no guarantee he's with the Giants long term
