I recently copped a used Xbox 360 E 250GB from Cowboom for $99.99 plus tax. The console had signs of wear but it works fine and the accessories were brand new. I went to Gamestop and bought four games for around 20 dollars.
I didn't miss out on anything because I don't care about playing most games on day one, and I have a PC which allows me to play the best version of most multiplatform games. Plus, I have a Wii U and both handhelds so I'm not starving for games.
By waiting until the end of a generation, you can get the best version of a system and its games for cheap and you won't get burned by console upgrades throughout the console's lifetime. I'm gonna cop a 500GB PS3 when I find a good deal, and I'll probably buy a PS4 and and a Xbone after the next generations come out.
