whats good brehs. Im looking to get a modem for my parents house and i dont know shyt about them

My parents are really hard headed. They want the modem in the garage(idk why). The garage is about 40 feet away from the rooms and theres about 5 walls in between the garage and the rooms. I rather not get an adapter, anyone got any recommendations for a good, reliable modem?

Do you need a modem or a router?

Just get wifi extenders, so they can get wifi in the garage.

You need to talk them out of putting that in the garage. Going to make everything more difficult, along with less climate control, which may shorten equipment life.

JUST bought my 3rd cable modem in the past 20 years now. went from the SB6121 to the SBG8300

the new one is SIGNIFICANTLY faster and also has a built in router with 4 ethernet ports

I am paying for 500Mbps service and the old modem was getting me maybe 1/10th of the speed and then started freezing on the regular lately.

bought the new joint off amazon refurbished for $134, which is a pretty good deal.

now I'm getting like 300Mbps down :ahh:

Who is the ISP? Not every modem works well with every ISP. For example, if you have Comcast, they have a list of approved third party modems.
