4 months ago my uncle bought his wife a decent running gas saving car off craigslist for $650 :gladbron:

I know a few other people that bought decent cars off craigslist but I've heard a lot of horror stories also.

Is it a great idea? Or should I stick to going to a used car lot? My budget is no more than $2000.

Am I aiming to low? I just need a point a to b car that is a gas saver and runs decent and I am not looking to pay a car note.

You can use it, get a carfax so you can check histories. I know plenty of people that have.

I've done it before. Just get that shyt check out at the dealer (it cost around $150). Carfax only has what been reported. That being said if someone got into a fender bender and didn't report it to the insurance company, ordered some parts off of ebay, got them painted and installed by some shade tree mechanic; it aint gonna be on the carfax.

Yep, what everyone else has said. My friend has bought several cars off of Craigslist. I would have to say for every 5 cars that he buys, he may have had a bad experience with 1 so that's about a 80% satisfaction rate so he's doing good.

You must do your research and if you have connects with law enforcement to make sure that car is that persons. Also a diagnostic which costs like a $100 to see if the car needs immediate fixing or anything that needs to be changed in the near future. Also NO SALVAGE TITLES. No matter what. Just gotta know what you're doing but I cosign if you're very careful.

If you're planning on banging out chicks in the backseat and using it as a mattress just stay away from the craigslist cars and get a new one.

you better know a mechanic or have the car taken to one to get it inspected. i bought a car off CL on blind faith about a year ago and the tranny is messed up on it now. wasn't when i bought it. i spend like $1800 for it.

My uncle who is a mechanic is taking me to see 2 cars off CL tonight...I won't make my decision until this weekend though. Got two more to see before the week is up.
