...compared to going out to eat. I bought some bone-in chicken thighs the other night to slow cook for chicken tikka masala and it seems like after I account for ingredients, I could've saved $3-4 dollars and just eaten out. Buying in bulk could lower those costs some more, but not buy much. Groceries seem to have gone WAY up the last 9 months or so.

apologies if this thread is off-topic here. i wasn't sure where to post it

yea thats one of the main reasons i cook 90% of my food. but on a purely economical level its ridiculous. its cheaper to eat bad food.
I'm honestly at a point where I wanna cook veggies separately and then just get the rest of it from eating out.

It's silly to cook right now. My guess is that the chain restaurants have enough scale to offset the cost of ingredients going up.

theres a Wing Stop right down the street from here. they've started serving thighs almost exclusively (lower meat costs) but these mfs act like they invented dark meat! im glad more people are starting to appreciate that the thigh IS the best part of the chicken, but come on now

It's so bad you may literally have to catch and kill your own meal now..

If you really know how to prepare food, you spend a lot less..better to make your own pasta than to buy. Its just flour, egg yolk and some oil.
Bake your own bread etc.
If you live near a coastline, fresh seafood is affordable. If you live near farms, speak to people and get beef cheap.

Not to be in some tinfoil hat shyt, but when it comes to meat, you never know where it came from.

Whether from a cloning lab (where they make copies of synthetic meat), an actual animal or an actual missing human being.

Respect the good & understand the bad
My daughter always starts craving read meat around the time of her month due to iron loss. Fortunately a small chain grocery store down the street from us carries grassfed, hormone free meat for really good prices (same as costco but thicker cuts and organic). In fact I just got back from it, and picked up two ribeyes while I was there and got them dry brining in the fridge right now in preparation to cook for dinner tomorrow. Whole meal will cost about $60 to feed the three of us which isn't that bad with all things considered :eat:

This is from a dinner last week, and yielded us with a small amount of leftovers
