I've been looking for different investments and capital for a screwdriver a friend of mine and I have been working on. While researching government grants we could I apply for I came across, the EB5 visa/greencard program. Basically it's a cheat code for super wealthy foreigners to get visas. They just have to invest 1 million dollars into a "new commercial enterprise" that will create 10 or more jobs which includes the jobs that it will create for the investor and their family. Or they can do the same thing and invest 500,000 but it has to be in an enterprise in an area in which the unemployment rate is 150% higher than the national average. Or they can invest that to a Regional Center "a 3rd party-managed investment vehicle (private or public), which assumes the responsibility of creating the requisite jobs".

Has anyone here ever been involved with something like this on either side?

That type of path to citizenship is common in most wealthy western countries. In Portugal all you need to do is purchase a property for 500,000 euros and you will get a visa that also allows you to freely visit all the EU countries in the Schengen area. After six years you can apply for Portuguese citizenship.

Why's it easier for one nationality or ethnic group to get it over another? sounds like an obvious answer but I'd like to not jump into conclusions
some countries have relationships with the US that others don't. you're not over-thinking it if oil is the first thing to come to mind. also saudi arabia pays for everything for its citizens, and forces them to return after receiving american educations

latinos gotta jump through a million hoops to prove they aren't gonna gonna stay here after their visa expires

god forbid an arab muslim overstays their visa tho :whew: expired student visas were one of the many common themes between the 93 WTC bombing and 9/11

That sounds about right. American men have a lot of trouble getting a tourist visa for their Thai girlfriends (usually bargirls). The US is probably worried about the women being brought over for prostitution.

I noticed Korean parents are able to come live in America for a year or two while their children attend public schools. The parents don't work so they contribute more to the economy than they take out.

Colleges and private high schools now actively recruit Chinese students. The 2014 freshman class at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne will be nearly 10% Chinese nationals. In North Dakota, dikkinson State University has been accused of giving degrees to Chinese nationals who couldn't speak English and didn't complete coursework.

anyone with a student visa can bring nonimmigrant dependents with them on the same papers, as long as they are immediate family by blood or legality (marriage, adoption).

chinese students are the new goldmine for universities, from 980 students to huge state schools.

Chinese and Gulf arab students are a lucrative source for US universities. They can pay most of the fees upfront with no problem and a lot that i know end up going back.I also heard they get stipends between 2000 and 4000 a month when they are in school, a bunch of them would take one year of ESL and that guarantees them an additional year. Student visas are however restrictive compared to the other visas. There is some business incubator organization that actively seeks foreign investors and organizes the investors visa located in the Greater Cleveland area whose name i cannot recall, i think these rustbelt cities are more likely to be actively seeking those types of investors.
