There are 4 solid elements..

Graffiti
Deejaying
Emceeing
And breaking

Producing ISNT ONE OF THEM..

The only way a beatmaker or producer could be hip hop is if he/her had skills on the turntables and could rock a crowd..

So to you beatmakers..you are not hip hop..by definition

producing isn't part of Rock or classical either. its just producing. Beatmaking is part of DJing though.

They were making beats in the early 80s but nobody added that as an element ..it's still to this day not an element..they added more elements like, knowledge, fashion, street smarts, etc and still haven't added beat making..why is that? Because its not hip hop..at all..it's totally something else..just not hip hop

it's pretty clear that "beatmaking" is an offshoot of DJing, it used to be DJ's were the main ones making the beats anyway but also if you look back into the early to mid 80s a lot of the beatmakers were the engineers themselves, the DJ just brought in the music & the idea but the engineer was the one with the knowledge of how to do it.

DJs were looping breaks for people to rap on

That's kind of what producers do

But not all producers were djs..if you're a DJ who became a producer than yes, you are hip hop..but if you're just a producer making beats and have never deejayed then how is that hip hop..by definition? Most all producers have rapped and deejayed so they get a pass..I can't think of a producer that hasn't ATM..maybe amp live,,?

Hiphop is dynamic, just like all type of art.
Now there is specific sub-genres in art, like crunk will never relaxing music.
