I got hazed 1 time & never participated in that shyt again.

One day at band practice @ Bama State, one of the upperclassman asked me “you coming to the spot tonight?” My dumb ass said yea not knowing what was going on & most of my crab brothers & sisters said they were going.

We get to an off campus apartment, & they told us what was about to go down. They told us to get in the cut & all of the upperclassman in my section who were there proceeded to hit us on the ass with a big ass boat oar. It had a hole in it to reduce drag, and one of the dudes was on the baseball team as well :mjlol:

My ass was blue and black for a week & it hurt to sit and walk for a while. Few weeks after they asked us if we were coming again and I said hell nah.

They tried to put the freshmen against each other (the ones who got hazed and the ones who didn’t wanna do it), but damn near 20 years later we’re all still cool, attend each other weddings & one of em even named me his son’s godfather. Plus they tried to say you was weak if you didn’t let them beat on you, but all the best players were folks who didn’t participate in that shyt.

Idk how frats are but hazing at HBCU bands was ridiculous until Robert Champion died at FAMU. They made him run up & down the isle on one of their busses while some folks punched him in the chest. Idk what happened but he ended up passing away & those who did it were kicked out of school & faced criminal charges I believe.

Before every season, band directors sits down with parents and promise them they’ll take care of their kids & they make everyone sign an anti hazing paper.

I don’t think it’s as bad now as it was when I was in college but I’m pretty sure some of it still goes on.

Few year ago at Southern, one of the freshman band members sued the school I believe because of hazing. They didn’t hit him with paddles or anything but they kept slapping the back of his neck & head with a wet towel :dead:

Kids these days are smarter than we were. I doubt many of them put up with that shyt. If it is hazing, it’s probably some minute shyt or more mental hazing.

Above the fray.
@staticshock

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I've been hearing about this project for what seems like a decade+.
It was supposed to follow up on the success of his documentary about food/health. Trailers were teased years ago. I assumed that pressure blocked it from being released.

The deaths of Robert Champion and a Black student at Cornell are at the core of this documentary, but it covers military hazing , white frats, and other examples.
Unfortunately there have been more hazing deaths since Hurt began this project, including a high profile hazing death at an Asian fraternity years back.

In my time, I roomed with dudes who pledged multiple years. I know about near death experiences.

I’m not gon lie
That shyt sound stupid and gay ass fukk

They hazing harder then it is to get in some gangs :dahell: damn near death
Worse than gangs. Most gangs initiations is only 30-60 seconds and at least they want you to fight back. Frats you gotta stand and take that shyt for months. And at the end of it there’s a chance you may not even get to cross. My brother dealt with all that shyt to be a que and right before the probate someone snitched and the line got dismantled. I got another friend that was tryna be que as well and he ended up with broken ribs and and some other shyt, had to go to the hospital and they disbanded the entire line.

At my school a nikka damn near died tryna be a que. Got an infection on his ass or some shyt also had to go to the hospital. A few of them nikkas got suspended and kicked out the school. :snoop:

Good looking out OP I will watch. My mom told me and me siblings as kids to never join a frat or sorority. She told us a story bout how her friend was pledging and they blind folded all the girls and left them in a swamp. I also had a best friend try to join they spiked his drink and was doing shyt to him while unconscious now he has mental issues because of it.

I watched the entire documentary and Marc Lamoist Lamont is a typical, brainwashed fraternity member. There’s no “context” that justifies literally beating on your “brother”. It’s nothing but “someone beat on me, so now I get to beat on you and do it worse”.”

For someone who is against violence and advocates for peoples rights, it was pretty eye opening to see him brush off this brutality.

I will say towards the end he did kind of see how pointless this type of hazing is.

The national level of these orgs continue to turn a blind eye and basically endorse abuse and death by making excuses and hiding behind legalities. It’s shameful.

Frats don't send recruits/new members out to KILL other Black men, though.
There’s not much difference. Animalistic behavior is animalistic behavior. In fact, it could even be viewed as worse than gangs.

You may have to be initiated once by beating up in a gang for a minute or less.

Frats torture people mentally and emotionally and beat on them physically for months. And they call themselves brothers. Their actions have killed black men literally, and have killed the spirits of countless other black men.

After you cross, there’s an open culture of sexualizing women and generally feeling above the law. I know this is not the case for all fraternities or fraternity members, but comparing them to a gang is appropriate.

If this is what being in a fraternity has come to, pass me a bandana.

I understand the points that both you and the other member are making.

I just disagree. Newly inititiated members or recruits of gangs might have to harm or kill other Black people to join.
When bloods came out to metro NYC, one of the sets had people slash random people across the face as part of joining. Dozens or hundreds of people with scars today because of that.

I'd imagine that in different areas they might have to shoot down a rival member to join. Street gangs operate in a world of violence and death against other gangs, and crime victims.

Can criticize frats for a lot of things, but they don't compare to criminal organizations.

Im just interested in the sorority rituals. All them frats gay as fukk in my book. The sense of family and unity is Kool but if you gotta bend over multiple times for @Another Man to be considered part of the organization, you pretty much just joined a big ass homoerotic orgy group :mjtf:

fukk I look like paying thousands to joint a frat/sorority to get hazed. Pay to get your ass whipped. fukk outta here. :mjlol:
