Didnt think twice about this, until I saw that retail spots were charging people extra to pay fir items with cash.
I'm curious, why would they charge extra? I'm not familiar with this legislation.

I was under the impression that retailers were charged fancy fees every time they ran a card transaction for a Visa or MasterCard. So presumably there should be more margin for stores that keep cash customers.

I fully admit I'm no expert in this topic, but I think the only actual advantage of not having cash that i can imagine is a lowered potential for robbery. :patrice:

They would only do it because they could get away with it. Crooks. But each news story about the law mentioned it, as the AG stated in the release.

“New Yorkers have a right to service no matter how they choose to pay,” said Attorney General James. “Businesses cannot deny New Yorkers access to necessities like food and clothing by refusing to take cash, or charging shoppers more for paying in cash. I will not hesitate to enforce this law to protect consumers across our state.”
