:patrice: I don't know....if you've worked in academia then you definitely know that there are some people who just do not see PhD holders as "doctors."

For a lot of people the title "doctor" is strictly reserved for MDs. I've had a number of friends who have said that they would never call someone a "doctor" unless they were a medical doctor....

NOW i will say it is definitely appropriate to call someone with a PhD a doctor in a setting where they are using their credentials....and it looks to me as if this were one of those situations....if she wanted to be called "doctor"...all he had to do was apologize and call her that....not that hard
Yea i agree

i dont really consider a phD a doctor but if tat was what they preferred then i would apologize and oblige. That simple really

Some of my dads friends and my mom call my dad Doc. But its not something he cares too much about

Fukk that cac, but let's be honest I don't call people dr in public either. A lot of doctors take that shiit too seriously and act like they are the only ones in the world that had to work hard for their title.

That's like attorneys demanding you call them Esquire in public

It is almost like a cinder block in the minds of white people that keep them from addressing Black people with any real level of respect.

No, and usually I would roll my eyes either way. But it was a formal city council commission meeting and a professional interaction, so her request was totally appropriate. And he didn't just refuse to use her title, when corrected he went the condescending route and doubled down to using only her first name.

Just saw this video and had to see thecoli's take on this:pachaha:

The fact its a white man definitely has me bias, because I know damn well I hate these people who hit you with the "I'm a Doctor" when you call them Mr. or Mrs. I don't know if it would be considered unprofessional, but if somebody tells me that I usually just reply "Oh okay:unimpressed:". And I don't call they ass anything else for the remainder of our interaction.. You might be "buddy" "chief" "champ" "queen" "sista" "baby" etc,or nothing at all if you really annoyed me. But you will never have that closure of me calling you a doctor:wow:.
