You'd think folks would hesitate pulling the "back in my days" considering how often it gets debunked

we have to understand humans are cyclic we do the same things. I’m sure if we find the right ancient tablet someone probably joked about something more sinister than this. Just imagine all the universe explorers over the years every last one of them was told they are doing something stupid and silly….A lot did die. But those that died helped those that arrived.

Missing the point.
Human behavior doesn't change much. We are sardonic creatures who find humor in the macabre.
It's only recently that we've been told it's fukked up, but we still find it funny. We are animals, the result of millions/billions of years of evolution (or whatever you believe in). For everyone of us that made it, ten died in some fukked up way. All we did was sit back and learn what NOT to do.
Why do highway barriers and stop lights exist? Enough poor fools flew off the side of the highway into a ravine, or the ocean, or the wasteland for us to build a barrier in that stop. Why is it against the law to smash a 13 year old? Because sans deterrent, motherfukkers would fukk 13 year olds without thinking about it.
Humans are incredible though. You better sit back and laugh, lest you become one of the fallen.
