This is how it worked for us. Neighborhood adults we put Mr. or Ms. in front of first name (i.e. Ms. Essie, Ms. Bertha).
With aunts and uncle, we actually called them by their first name. Which actually used to make people who wasn't in the fam. real uncomfortable. People used to always say "You mean your Aunt Erika." And I be like "No, Erika". I only had one auntie who felt I disrespected her by calling by her first name. And we used to do that since we was kids but as an adult she told me to call her Aunt Barbara (RIP). My parents: Daddy and Ma.

How did it work for you. Neighborhood adults, family members, parents.

It was always Mr. blank and Ms/Mrs. blank. Aunt whoever and Uncle whoever. Even significantly older cousins were Aunt/Uncle.

shyt- my bosses are only 5 years older than me and I never address them by their first names- I always use Dr. beforehand :manny: It's funny that you ask though- my ex's nieces and nephews called him by his first name (no Uncle) and it always weirded me out a little.

Only older adults I call by their first names are my godmothers just because saying, Godmommy Nikki is too long but my mom's godkids actually just call her "Godmommy".

Everyone else is Aunt/Uncle/Mr./Mrs./Ms. ___

I'm well grown and still call older men and women (my parents peers) by Mr. or Ms/Mrs. It was either Aunt/Uncle..if they were really close to the fam or Mr/Ms/Mrs for others/other kids' parents..and Sister X or Brother Y for people we knew thru church. I did call my father by his first name but never my mom, it wouldn't even occur to me to do that. :merchant:

I'm adopted so I was used to calling my parents by their first names until we bonded on family vacation. We drove through the ghetto attempting to find out hotel cuz we were lost. My dad said son "you're no longer one of them. You're one of us" from that day on it was mom and dad
