My wife has recently decided to become a vegetarian.

She bought some Tofu that's about to expire soon.

Anyone know a good Tofu recipes that are edible for... non vegetarians?

She has been kind of stickler about it so far, so I know she will eat shyt even if she knows the flavor isn't great, trying to find something we both can enjoy instead of letting it go to waste.

whatever you end up doing, it'll probably benefit from a quick brine

i usually do a mince type dish like tacos (like chipotle) or mixed with mixed veggies
i just had mapo tofu yesterday. i want to try making that next

tell her squeeze out some of the water. cube it up. marinade it in soy sauce, garlic powder, lil bit of liquid smoke, smoked paprika, salt pepper for a few hours in the fridge. if you got an air fryer, pop the shyt in there for like 8 min, or pan fry it with a stir fry

Get a tofu press. I am not vegetarian (once was) but I switch up from time to time. I fried some bomb tofu once and turned my girlfriend off from it. Why? I did not press the moisture out. It didn't have the right chew and had too much water inside so it was basically tasteless particle board with a good external crust. Press the water out before brining or dry seasoning and you are good to go. Tofu can be an excellent fukking substitute for meat if you treat it right.

Tofu press like breh above says

Also if you freeze tofu it gets a different texture, I think better than unpressed tofu.

Cut into cubes, marinate then convection bake at 450. A marinade based around soy sauce and cornstarch is pretty easy and good. Obviously it’s Asian flavors.

Or, and hear me out, just toss it. It cost a few bucks. Who cares if it expires.

i love tofu (and tempeh) but im not a vegetarian. i cook it with my meat lol

it absorbs the flavors of whatever you cook it with. ive never tried pressing it, i gotta try this now!

i usually do a quick beef-n-broccoli a few times a month. i just throw some steak strips and tofu in a ziploc with some soy sauce and pepper and leave it in the fridge for a day or two.

i dont really care for 'soft' tofu i always get the firm ones... does soft tofu absorb flavor better? put me on please :feedme:

i have a pretty good veggie burger recipe written down somewhere. i use black beans and lentils with some flour to bind it. i like to dress them with spicy peanut sauce

but ive also had them with bacon which defeats the whole point :mjlol:
