Barely any minnows in this tournament. All the heavyweights made it, outside of Nigeria. The defending champions are Cote D'Ivoire, who have since fielded a new generation as the old heads all retired after they finally won a trophy.

One East African team (Uganda) and Southern African (Zimbabwe) but everyone else is from the West and North.
