As far as not getting compensated for recording,
When you're a rap crew you just get in the studio and record. You think Juelz or Jim asked cam for money anytime they got on a hook or did a verse on come home with me, purple haze or a diplomat mixtape. They get writers credit and then get paid.
And you can make an excuse for literally anything but you know and I know not getting compensated when you're the one doing most of the work is slimeball shyt. Come on man. Don't defend bullshyt just to play devil's advocate.
