Read up on the Japanese Kamikaze pilots. The notes they wrote to their fam and how they felt to give up their lives for glory despite knowing the nations inevitable loss.

Japs are mainly atheist right? It's not like Muslims who commit terrorist attacks thinking they'll wake up in heaven afterwards

These dudes know this is it and are still willing to go all out for their cause

First off, :whoa: and :usure: at the use of what is widely considered a slur.

Historically, many Japanese were Shinto and Buddhist. Religion in East Asia was historically very different from the Western religions, however, in terms of institutionalization and practice. The concept of god(s) was/is very different. So maybe not atheist... just something different.

Just copped this joint based on reviews

From the author of the best-selling memoir An Unquiet Mind, comes the first major book in a quarter century on suicide, and its terrible pull on the young in particular. Night Falls Fast is tragically timely: suicide has become one of the most common killers of Americans between the ages of fifteen and forty-five.

An internationally acknowledged authority on depressive illnesses, Dr. Jamison has also known suicide firsthand: after years of struggling with manic-depression, she tried at age twenty-eight to kill herself. Weaving together a historical and scientific exploration of the subject with personal essays on individual suicides, she brings not only her remarkable compassion and literary skill but also all of her knowledge and research to bear on this devastating problem. This is a book that helps us to understand the suicidal mind, to recognize and come to the aid of those at risk, and to comprehend the profound effects on those left behind. It is critical reading for parents, educators, and anyone wanting to understand this tragic epidemic.

The Emperor was seen as "God" status, which is why Kamikazes were so willing to give their lives up for the cause. Not to mention their families and themselves would be honored at a shrine that was visited by the Emperor, which was their version of "heaven"

True, but Shinto has a long history before the State Shinto (basically originating in the Meiji Era as Japan became a capitalist state) what you wrote about above is characteristic of.

"An unusual autobiographical look at child abuse is a study of the erosion of a little girl's sense of self-worth and destruction of a family through parents' lies and falsifications--and the lasting effects on all members of the family."
