Apparently if so many burns fail then the drive will revert to PIO mode which is very slow.

I can see in the logs that I'm in PIO mode.

I've googled how to change it back and it always says to go to device manager and under the IDE ATA/ATAPI section I should click the drop down and see the drive then right click and find the option to go back to DMA.

My drive doesn't show up under there though, just my chipset and all that. Anyone know how I can get back to DMA?

Windows 8.1 by the way. Desktop.

try unplugging the drive from the mobo and plugging it into a different SATA plug?

I had no luck.

I did however, put a new rubber band on my old burner that works fine and now it opens and closes again.
