Spin from the Obama thread.

My response:
Given the history of America, I don't think so. On a surface level? Yes, black people can be patriotic. However, I Think America's Puritan values and pro white foundation conflicts with true black self determination.

Patriotic as a notion just means pride in one's country. Black people can't be blindly patriotic and we shouldn't be patriotic in the way white folks or some immigrants are. But we can say 'hey I'm glad to be an American' because we're all from somewhere and all things considered many of us would still prefer to be here. That said that's about as far as it goes for me. The world hates black folks and the places where black folks are the majority have largely been raped and pillaged by the world. I don't take any real 'pride' in being American because it doesn't say anything about who I am, it wasn't a choice I made, and I don't think I'm any better or worse than folks from other places because of it

Authentic c00ns get angry whenever anyone suggests that we either leave this country or separate from whites in this country.
I mean, if we ever decide to do either on a grand scale, then and only then should patriotism should be brought up.
Right now, we just don't have time to be patriotic.

I don't think the masses of any race are informed and educated enough to be patriotic. History and news is manipulated. Government is secretive. We don't know what we're bein' loyal too until 20 years later when secret documents are released.

American patriotism is blind faith in a country that has proven not to act on behalf of the majority of its citizens.

I start from the standpoint of believing in the basic premise of everyone being equal and everyone having freedom.

America has absolutely not lived up to this ideal in her history but people have been fighting for it the entire time, too. There have been steps toward the ideal.

When we think of this "somewhere else" we're supposed to go to find freedom, I don't know where that is. In fact, if it was out there I'd probably be there.

So my thinking is: America is about the promise of this ideal and working toward it is the only way to realize it. As such, I want to be part of that. I want there to be a day where we are truly free.

So I am faithful and hopeful moreso than proud of the past, I guess.

I'm starting realize that black people wishing for a black president was a pipe dream. For Example, you have black president who can't really candidly support an unequal black class / Anti anthem protest becuase it would be unpatriotic.

He could do whatever he wants, but he didn't cuz he's a fakkit.
He doesn't cape for black people cuz he doesn't care.

IF this was a gay issue he would have bills signed already

Doesn't make it right or the logical thing to do. Especially AA black people

I look at it much like how people rep certain teams simply because they live in the area. The team has no loyalty to you nor the players, they make money off you and you support them and in return they offer some entertainment. No where near as much as you invest in a team, especially if your a die hard fan.
