I'm a big fan of both, but honestly I wasn't on to Madlib until Champion Sound, and I got onto Dilla a couple years earlier in the Common LWFC / Slum Village FV2 era.
I've had some discussion before about their sounds. Obviously Madlib has made music that's clearly Dilla inspired: https://www.stonesthrow.com/news/20...konducta-vol-5-6-cd-to-be-released-febuary-10 (Also, don't shoot me, but I think Vol 5 & 6 (Dil Cosby and Dil Withers Suite) are right up there with Donuts.
But when I go back and listen to Champion Sound, it's almost like Madlib's beats sound more like later era Dilla beats. So I guess my question is that I've heard that Dilla got a lot of Madlib influence for his later work (Donuts, etc)
I mean obviously they both influenced each other big time, but do the expert producer heads of The Booth think that Dilla got a lot of his later sound from Madlib?
