Can one argue that "It Was Written" was better than "illmatic"

im a big nas fan and ive always considered these two albums to be his best work as im sure many other people do. how, illmatic, from start to finish, was just amazing it was so ahead of its time. but, with that being said, "it was written" had better songs IMO just being honest. not taking anything away from illmatic, just sayin it was written was a little better

Nas is more of a work rate guy imo he just didn't draw as much as Jay Z, better worker than Jay tho. I will say Nas won that 2001 feud though, Meltzer raved about it too.

I just hate how the business didn't put over NaS after It Was Written. People just loved him over his Indy Gimmick Illmatic ROH Days but when he got that big WWE push people wasn't feeling it even though his technique got better. All the smarks in media hated that their indy darling finally got his footing in the mainstream (street dreams, if I ruled the world).

I remember reading around 2001 Bryan Alvarez saying Nas was going to put over Jay at the Toyko Dome but changed his mind at the last minute
