It's crazy how a small island can have so many accents. As I understand it, there are even different accents in the same city? How do accents break down in England in terms of Region and Class?

Like even in Game of thrones, I noticed there are different accents. The Northerners (Jon Snow and The Wildlings for example) have a different accent than some of the other characters.

The Ali G character is supposed to be a riff on a particular west indies accent.

@yo moms and other Brits.

Yeah and funny part is they discriminate against eachother based on their accents too from what I was told by this british girl i met in Costa Rica :heh:.
Humans, I tell ya. We find every reason to hate and discriminate :snoop:
But wait. Do all Kenyans have the same accent, tho?

Haiti for example is barely 28,000 square KM and we have different accents in different parts of the damn Half island. I speak kreyol better than most but Until i got used to hanging out with my cousin's husband I had no clue what northern Haitians were saying.
All the "ay" they add at the end of most words had me :deadrose:

:ohhh: I'm not really sure. I think all the tribal languages have the same accent. But, I left when I was 10 so I'm not sure. From what I have heard, Swahil, the common language, may have a different accent on the coast than in the interior. Damn here I am asking about England and ignorant about my own country. :heh:

Most countries in the world are like that though. Different regions have different accents. I guess since the US is so big, its seen as normal that there would be differences but it happens in small as countries too.

I'll give you an understandable example though. A New Yorker accent and a New Jersey accent are different and they are next door neighbours so why would u be surprised?

When it comes to Brit regional accents, my favourites are Scouser(Liverpool), Geordie (New Castle) and Yorkshire accents are the funniest to me for some reason...

Accents happen, B.

I'm sure places like Jamaica for example, which is like a 1/3 of Haiti's size have slight variations of their accent.
Is it true that there's actually black people in the uk? :ohhh:
Is this a troll attempt, or are you dead serious?

You're right there are slight variations in how the Swahili language is spoken. However, you have to remember that Swahili is a lingua franca and Kenya itself has over 60 different tribes, all with different cultures, customs and speaking different languages.

in kenya, accent is informed in part by both where a person comes from and what language he or she spoke first. for those of us born in the city, we all speak the same brand of swahili but for people who spent a large majority of their life 'ushago', their accent is much more apparent. and again this is a common discriminatory tool. if you speak with a rough accent in the city, you'll almost certainly be looked down upon. but it works both ways too. if you're a city slicker and go to the real 'village' you'll have a difficult time as nobody wants to accept you.

like i've said, human beings are funny creatures. it's amazing how we are all so different and similar at the same time
