Can some explain why weed is illegal

The thing that makes NO sense to me is that if they played it right a good amount of people could get paid off it just like cigs

Is there really NO1 with enough power that also wants to get paid that can make it happen

Powerful people seize every opportunity and it seems like this one is just there for the taking

And that's all there is to it. They can't keep tabs on all of the weed that comes in, and therefore they are unable to tax it the same way they do cigarettes. No benefit for the government = it is illegal. Period.

Weed is easier for the layman to grow therefore it is much more difficult to regulate and tax compared to tobacco. The medicinal value of marijuana also threatens big pharma because no singular plant/product can provide relief the range of ailments marijuana has been proven to be effective for.

Tobacco can be grown at home but it would take a hefty plot of land to get a couple of cartons of cigarettes whereas marijuana could be grown virtually anywhere. Any skilled marijuana grower could could crank out several pounds of marijuana with a couple of mother plants and sustained grow closet.. Tobacco depletes the soil and is a time intensive crop. It's not even realistic enough to grow for personal consumption. Its a no brainier and the companies who have a monopoly on how you poison your body know that.

You need big closet and big electric bill to pump out like that. Few people grow indoors for personal use because it only worth it if you sell it. Growing outside is "time intensive" for any plant.

And having the tree come out good isn't easy at all.

So many reasons, first of all it would affect many industries with enormous lobbying groups (Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, Private Prisons). Secondly I believe the herb has a certain enlightening aspect to it, which helps you to develop a critical an sceptic way of viewing everything.
