Can somebody explain why the Rams play in the NFC West?

Yet the DALLAS Cowboys play in the NFC East? :what:

And while we at it why do the Miami Dolphins play in the AFC East yet the Colts play in the AFC South? :mindblown:

Imagine those annual Brady-Manning matchups we would've had :banderas:

I seriously been wanting to ask this same question...

Edit: this is what I found...

Although the St. Louis Rams are geographically farther east than Dallas, the Cowboys remained in the NFC East and the Rams stayed in the NFC West because of long-standing rivalries: the Cowboys with all three other teams in the East, and the Rams with the San Francisco 49ers in the West.

Rivalries and money.
St Louis use to be the Los Angeles Rams obviously and they were not going to break up the Rams-Niners rivalry. People forget how old school this use to be but lost it's luster since they moved out to St. Louis.

The Cowboys are in the NFC East for the same reason the Chiefs are in the AFC West; rivalries. They aren't going to break those teams up. But also, NYC, Philly, DFW, and DC are all top 10 markets.

And for the AFC East, they were NOT going to break up the Dolphins-Jets.

The 49ers have a rivalry with the Rams?

Edit: saw the post above but a lot of those rivalries are not even relevant anymore.

The Rams-Niners was old school. SF vs LA. If the Rams move back to LA, watch that rivalry start to build up again. Jets and Dolphins aren't relevant right now because both teams have been mediocre the past 20 years but best believe it's still a heated rivalry. Just like the Cowboys and Redskins are.
