Greek life is very important. It teaches leadership, standing for something and representing something greater than yourself. The networks are amazing. The oppurtunities that can arise from greek life are endless. Black greek life is a huge deal IMO.
It's a commitment, you have to learn how to manage time, how to schedule your life, how to socialize with men your age and older brothers that put you on game. It's also a marker on growth, you learn a lot about people. SOmething you used to look down on, you begin to celebrate.
It's not about being known and pulling owmen, although it's a benefit. It's about getting involved where you fit the most and learning how to be around others. The social aspects alone will change you as a person. Cats that used to be shy and not have social skills are constantly around people 24/7 building connectiosn and social skills. Learning ettiquette like how to follow up, how to maintain relationships.
But the most important thing is the pride, the pride of being a part of something not everyone else is. A lot of cats hate college until they pledge, then somehow in their misery of havng little time, they begin to enjoy and develop a sense of pride about themselves and their schools.
