Not gonna bother answering. Seems like nikkas here already have their thoughts/assumptions.

I joined for the connections to the black community in my town, it's not a big community, but so far ive gotten into pretty good opportunities.

That hazing shyt doesn't happen everywhere

you had to do some gay shyt didn't you? :francis:

It's not about paying for friends, I have friends i made before and after pledging who I'm tighter with than some of my line sisters, friends weren't an issue....but everyone has their own reasons for joining. Me personally, I think it really helped me learn how to be vulnerable/express vulnerability, my prophytes and my sands helped me realize and appreciate my natural gifts and parts of my personality that others criticized, and it was an opportunity to bring a different type of sisterhood in my life, especially being that I didn't really grow up with many female family members outside of my mom. And my org actually did a lot of community service and programming on campus.

That said, I also won't front like the social aspect wasn't part of it as well, not on my campus in particular, but the network it opened with other schools. I was in cincy for a summer interning, stayed on Xavier's campus, ended up meeting some sorors there, they took me in and we kicked it all summer. Went to Howard for a semester, the sorors there hooked us up. Used to go to parties in la, meet other Greeks on spring break, etc. Nothing wrong with another avenue that helps you network....or "network" :shaq:

Man black frats are a network like no other. You can be ANY where in america, and if you meet someone that wheres the same letters as you, they treat you like fam. Atleast thats how they act in the south.

Been to plenty of homecomings (im non greek) with people who are greek and they made sure we had food at the tailgate and alcohol. :blessed:

Greek life is very important. It teaches leadership, standing for something and representing something greater than yourself. The networks are amazing. The oppurtunities that can arise from greek life are endless. Black greek life is a huge deal IMO.

It's a commitment, you have to learn how to manage time, how to schedule your life, how to socialize with men your age and older brothers that put you on game. It's also a marker on growth, you learn a lot about people. SOmething you used to look down on, you begin to celebrate.

It's not about being known and pulling owmen, although it's a benefit. It's about getting involved where you fit the most and learning how to be around others. The social aspects alone will change you as a person. Cats that used to be shy and not have social skills are constantly around people 24/7 building connectiosn and social skills. Learning ettiquette like how to follow up, how to maintain relationships.

But the most important thing is the pride, the pride of being a part of something not everyone else is. A lot of cats hate college until they pledge, then somehow in their misery of havng little time, they begin to enjoy and develop a sense of pride about themselves and their schools.

I did not know about frats and soros until I went to school. The shyt did not appeal to me; a couple of catz asked me to join but I did not have the time or the money. Also I remember when a couple of catz that joined frats and soros; nikkas started acting funnny and shyt lol. I going to get down with the bruhs because I looked up to my mentor as a man; but hanging with the younger bruhs I was like naw I coo.

But anyone that what to join; it's up to you, fukk what anybody else have to say. Do you:manny:
