So I'm over here talking to a friend of mine who is single talking about she is dating this dude exclusively, like they are monogamous, and when I referred to him as her "boyfriend" she got all weird talking about "he's not my boyfriend, I'm just test driving"

I guess I'm kinda old school so I'm kinda at a loss. Can someone break down the differences between "exclusively dating" "boyfriend/girlfriend" "main chick" whatever other gray areas you can think of?

I mean I understand dating/fukking multiple people, and friends with benefits too. I'm talking about you treat each other like a relationship, looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, but you refuse to call it a duck? Help me out young single folks

She has been burned before, leaving room for the back track if it doesn't end well.

I understand the monogamous "title" that can lead to the test drive. Then the test drive normally consists of...

Making sure you're safe sexually, while also seeing if this person is worth introducing to friends and family.

At that point, that's when the gf/bf title comes about.

IMO.

It means that they haven't had that kind of talk. A lot of folks, myself included at times, don't necessarily sleep around and only get it in with one person. Normally the official boyfriend/girlfriend title comes along when one or both of them fall in love. Honestly, after 24 or so, there's no point in calling someone your girlfriend if you don't expect at least a few years out of the situation.

Titles are bad now.

I can't remember what comedian said it, but it's true:
"I don't have a girlfriend - but I do know a girl who would be mad if she found out I said that."

This would make sense - if it wasn't for the fact that he said ol' gurl and dude were "dating exclusively" and "monogamous".
That means they have talked about this on some level...

That's her boyfriend. I don't know why she doesn't call it that.
