Can Upstate NY brehs claim NY?

I know this can be up for debate. No shots at my Upstate brehs because I've met some cool ones but I get thrown off sometimes when I meet them and I ask them where they're from and they say "I'm from NEW YAWK SHUN! " So I'm like "Word? Where about, which borough? " And they hit me with the "...oh, I'm from Rochester " Nikka, why didn't you just say you was from Rochester?

New York is a state too, so yeah.
If someone says they're from NYC but they really live in Mt. Vernon or Albany- then they're not official with NYC, that's a misrepresentation but they're still from the State of.
But usually if a person from New York is talking with another NYer, they'll say what part or upstate, but anyone outside of NY that lives in other states, it's not a big issue.

When I was living there, the furthest upstate that niiggas would claim was Westchester County. Anything north of that would get the treatment.

One of my white homie's friends was getting married in Rome, NY, and a few of us went up there with him. I had never thought an area of NY could be so country. We even played barnyard basketball; these dudes had put up a hoop in an actual barn.
