I think Wayne's Carter IV round of success was the most obvious bout of artificial inflation that the mainstream music industry has ever seen. He basically got a stimulus package for his brand but that album didn't have the buzz to carry those type of number - and there's no visible evidence of a fan base being mobilized during that time
