Honestly I used to get heated about people calling shyt that just came out classic - but I think its time to just acknowledge that the definition of the term has changed, at least in the way its used most often, and really doesn't have anything to do with standing the test of time.

Realistically, 'classic' in the traditional sense doesn't mean shyt any more to your average hip hop fan, because its not enough just to like something because of your own personal taste, everyone is insecure as hell and wants to be part of something thats significant on a broader cultural/historical level.

So basically everything has to be 'classic.' It's super annoying to see all these man-boys reaching for some kind of personal validation/belonging via their particular choices of entertainment, but it is what it is. This is the result of out of control capitalism - selfhood and identity can't exist outside of our relationships with the various commodities we consume.

The concept of a classic will always undergo some kind of redefinition as each generation takes up the mantle. So I don't really bat much of an eye when people call something a classic. If it really resonates with them and they play every song on that motherfukker without skipping, then fukk it. It's their "classic".

My brother says "Take Care" is a fukking classic FFS. I don't agree but maybe it's his generation's "classic" :manny:

Raises questions, but I'll ask em when I'm ready :pachaha:

I almost feel the same way. Drake, for me, was in his prime between Right Above It with Wayne and Started From the Bottom. Since then I've only bought 2 Drake songs: Believe Me (again Lil' Wayne's) and Company(because I fuxx with Travis Scott heavy).
I used to buy his whole Albums but now Its in such heavy rotation on the radio there's almost no point. I can't enjoy the songs and let them get to a deeper level for me cause all my friends who know little to nothing about rap just play them constantly and then wonder why I'm not into it. Its damn close to what I've read about the CIA torture they do at Gitmo. I won't knock anyone else for liking Drake, but a lot of his songs don't resonate with me anymore.
