I’m not that familiar with their music but an older 90s head was talking about how their music is degrading to young black women and she don’t let her daughters play that. My reply was What was Lil Kim and Foxy Brown music? I mean I really don’t see much of a difference.

Kim and Foxy had p*ssy raps but they rapped about a lot of different topics and in their videos they were sexy but not over the top with it usually. They mixed it up.

City Girls are 100% p*ssy p*ssy p*ssy rap and every video is of them shaking their ass in a thong. So they stand out more as far as 'degrading' or whatever you wanna call it.

There was more representation for the old heads. We had nicki Minaj with no one else on the mainstream level, and even Nicki was sexual but didn’t promote literally being a Ho for a living. Now City Girls, et al, are promoting Ho culture with no other influences/examples on the scene.

Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Salt & Pepper (all these ladies were different generations but they existed and there were other women like them in the industry). Female rap today = sex

The difference is there’s not even a hint of balance with the City Girls. Even Nicki knew to throw a little introspection and variety into her albums even if the single was something sexual. Nicki also tried to mix in a little Missy Elliot/Busta Rhymes flavor when she first came out with her videos and style of dress. She knew it couldn't all be p*ssy/p*ssy/bootyhole/bootyhole

While Kim and Fox were sexually explicit, that wasn't your only choice in female rappers back then.
It's the same with male rappers and their over the top thuggery, so it's not like female rappers are being singled out like some people are trying to make it seem.
Not only that, but Kim and Fox would rap about other things along with the sex. Furthermore, they were nice on the mic.
Sexxy Red is just babbling on the song that made her infamous, which is a large part of why people are drawing the line in the sand with her.

Lil Kim and Foxy was talking about moving drugs and all that for they dude. I’m not saying either is better but the 90s chicks was degrading as well. I remember black women didn’t talk about giving head like that until lil kim. Women had more honor before them tbh.

Good points OP.

The current era has a lot of female rappers who aren't just talking about sucking and fukking just like the current era has male rappers that aren't just talking about designer clothes and popping bottles. It's not as mainstream tho so you have to dig around for a Tierra Whack, etc... It really reminds me of some of the dialogue in American Fiction

Lil Kim and Foxy wanted to be thoro drug dealers/mobsters that rapped about sex. They, too, went over the top on negativity outside of sex.

Preach on the bolded...

Frank White(BIGGIE) made sure that his friend/lover was in a position to win too.

Kim was more thoro than most female rappers nowadays. AFTER all, she went to prison for not snitching.

Her and Foxy are some real Gs..
