He continually reinvented himself until something stuck and man did he ever get over
Yo... this feeds into a thread I been meaning to make about how they need to use NXT not as developmental per se anymore, but as the place for those 'creative has nothing for you' people to work out their self-reinventions on TV to see if they work. Not make that the main point, but there's definitely dudes on the main who could do with a bit of DDP/Jericho-esque mindset of 'let's try something else this time', but who aren't ready to be thrown into primetime to test it out.
DDP just kept grinding at shyt and eventually found a character through some shotgun approach shyt.
NXT/Main Event need to be that place for some of these guys. There's no reason Curtis Axel should be an afterthought in a goofy tag team as Mr. Perfect's kid. Why not bin the whole Shorty G thing, shave Gable's head, get him a mouthpiece and have Kurt down there working with him the way Shawn is working with Cole/Gargano?
They have guys that can get themselves over with a change of scenery and the allowance to tinker with their gimmick. The Dream is a perfect example of how having the allowance to feel out your gimmick and tinker with it and adjust it before you're in everyone's face on a 'main show' can change everything. DDP is in that #2 tier for great reinventers in wrestling, and there should be more people allowed to make those character changes.
(Jericho is alone in that #1 tier and it isn't even close; he's pro-wrestling Madonna)
Also, DDP needs more love from people just off of how he's literally saved the lives of legends that people place over him in the business. Dude is doing amazing work rehabbing his peers and giving back, instead of just leaving them strung out motherfukkers to the birds.
