We know you meant organisms but this is still a funny slip. Most of the evolution that is easy to believe in depends on climate. If you are a furry creature in the hot area you want less fur or no fur. If you are all bare skin in the snow you want to grow some fur.

Now imagine that deformity actually helps them survive their environment better or makes them more desirable to women. They will outlive their competitors and make babies with a high probability of being born with the same deformity...then they grow up and breed...and so on and so on.
