Can women tell the difference with rings?

I never understood why men spend thousands of dollars on rings. Especially since the resale value is piss poor. I seriously doubt that women know the difference between a $3000 ring vs a $100 ring.

Was talking with some friends and they told me women always can tell, so men have to get the more expensive ones.
What do y'all think?

One of these rings is $3,000+ and the other is under $100. Which is which.

I have no idea how much they cost. I'm sure you can find cheap, expensive and moderately priced versions of both.

Both are pretty. I like the style of number 1 the best.

I don't expect a ring because it's not in our culture but I would rather no ring than a cheap ring.
