There was a electrical engineer that lived in right in the middle of north saint louis city. Had THEE nicest house on the entire block if not the neighborhood . ungated and completely paid off, luxury cars for him and his wife. I thought that was kinda dope but I personally wouldnt do it
This fascination with "the hood" is currently one of our biggest problems as a collective.
I could actually make the argument that it's at the top of the list since it affects our mindset to the point where "white supremacy" can be hands off while we destroy OURSELVES.

Yall so silly. In this country, YOU ARE "the hood." You carry it within you. Thats why black ppls houses in GOOD neigborhoods are devalued. That's why when you move into a neighborhood, property values go down.
maybe if poor black people lived in trailer parks we wouldn't have to constantly have this debate. Nobody seems to get mad at cacs for moving out the trailer when they get a little money.
Also, why is 'the hood' associated with blackness? There are black middle-class suburbs and some upper-class suburbs as well. Why can't a black man move over there or why can't a black person grow up there without having some kind of insult being hurled at him? Black folks that grew up in the suburbs are literally slighted. "You grew up in the burbs, you ain't real". Really bizarre stuff to me. It's like the mindset is to embrace and remain in poverty.
What other community requires their members to stay in the same exact community when they financially make progress? White folks didn't expect Britney Spears to stay in the trailer parks once she started bringing in money.
It's also bizarre that the successful black folks need to constantly coddle the non-successful black folks and give them opportunities and businesses, aka 'give back' when those same people they are giving back to likely haven't done anything but give that black person misery.
The same black business owner, actor, entertainer, etc that is expected to 'give back' is likely the same one that was called poindexter, cornball, lame, etc. but he needs to go build up the same areas that didn't accept him but ridiculed him? Nah.

I used to live in active Gang Territory with Gang Wars, Drive-bys etc...
Even in front of my house!
Once I got my "Shyt Together", I got the FUKK OUT.
Living in a "Regular Hood" is OK. A Gang Infested one, IS NOT.
If you have to worry about being shot when you are simply "taking the trash out at night", IT'S TIME TO MOVE.
There ARE upscale Black communities, with less foolishness.
There are also "Mixed" communities with different types of people.
But I wouldn't EVER want to live in a mostly "White Community", I have ZERO patience for Racist Bullshyt.

They do this on a mass scale, like, once every few decades, but the process is always working in the background. Look at Master P and C-Murder examples. One of them stayed in the hood and ended up in prison for life. P tried to warn his brother, you can't stay in the hood when you're rich. C-Murder didn't listen and wanted to keep it real.
