has their hooks or like the complete set up written for them and all they have to do is fill in the lyrics? This happens a lot and there are very few out there that actually WRITE THE WHOLE SONG... Like on most of the hits you hear on the radio like Nicki Minaj's stuff, she has the foundation of the song written for her she probably just writes the verses and that's it!

there's a range .. in hip hop I think you'll find the producer often gives a very heavy assist to the track in terms of concept, hook, guest verses, etc

Nikki's problem is that she's in the female pop domain so she does get that "extra assist" because she's close to the completely manufactured songs like Britney, Rihanna etc get

Some producers have the hook made from jump into the beat..I feel its almost like having a beat where a sample is on the hook...its still up to the rapper to write them lyrics and take the song where they take it...cause I can hear a hook and feel like makin a song about one thing...and another rapper can hear a hook and wanna make the song about somethin else...for example look at what jay z did with "Lucifer" ..look at where he took that shyt RAP wise.

I mean i don't know, maybe it bothers me a bit but a lot of these rappers be talking about how they "write" hits when in fact a bunch of other people were involved in it

I know what your saying but hiphop is like the only genre where its looked down upon other ppl even assist you, but the thing is there plenty of ppl out there who can write there ass off but for whatever reason dont have the voice and/or image to pull off a successful hiphop artist. But their ideas shouldnt necessarily go to waste. What Im trying to say is for me I just care about the end product s long as all the "helpers" are getting their proper writing credit and compensation Im good just give me some hot shyt. For example the new DJ Khaled hiphop track that hook was dope as hell, do we know who came up with it? No, it could have been Khaled, JL, Nas, 'Face or a combination of them all I know is the final product was a dope track and both rappers brang the heat with their verses. Even if I found out somebody wrote Scarface's verse (which is not true) I wouldnt be upset because the emotion Scarface was able to evoke with that is a talent in and of itself.

Nah..if u a rapper and another nikka writin ya verse its fukk outta here..imo..lol..but what threadstarter is talkin bout is somethin different entirely...he talkin bout hooks...a rappers MAIN job ain't the hook...its writin rhymes and spittin em...theres beats that have sampled hooks or some producers that have the hook built into the beat...its up to the RAPPER to take that shyt somewhere special...again..like Jay did with Lucifer...not any rapper couldve done that ..

Yea I donr condone somebody writing your verses but Im not totally against the idea either as long as you got other talents that you're bringing to the table. For example ppl give Dre flack for not writing his raps but for me its like ehh its not that big of a deal. The vocalist in that sense still has to give a proper flow, delivery, charisma, presence, etc. If I heard soembody like Lupe was getting his shyt written for him then I'd lose respect for because he's more a lyricist and thats his claim to fame.

A lot of A-List rappers actually have nikkaz in their crew write full verses for them believe it or not. You think Jae Mills is signed because Wayne believes in him as an artist? LMAOOOOOOOO...

The things nikkaz don't know... :mjpls:

nah man it's the opposite.. in rap you can get a pass for everything except the lyrics

if a punk rock band had all their guitar music written by some studio instead of the bandmembers I'm pretty sure it'd be frowned upon (lol)

I think the issue is when you got to the mainstream.. like people who sell over 50k copies.. everything changes and you have all these people 'helping' you so in any genre there's a lot of inauthenticity that creeps in.. pop, rock, hip hop, anything

Yup..which is why I NEVER gave Wayne the level of respect Alotta other nikkas do..I still feel Gillie wrote the Carter 1..lol..Wayne is a child star who still tryna find himself...more hood version of Bow Wow imo...so if u say A List meaning overhyped..yea..lol..same with Kanye..which is why I never act like he's some elite rapper like some cats try to do...

I actually didnt know that about rock. I was thinking about R&P and pop when I said that. But with Rock there's at least 4 people in the band and sometimes more so its a full effort so theres more musically inclined people that lead to the overall effort of a finished product. With hiphop I get the feeling that some people really feel it should only be 2 people involved in the process of making a song and thats the rapper and the producer and thats it if either party gets any sort of assistance then its its looked down on look :shaq2: he aint a "real" producer or he aint a "real" rapper. When I say some people Im mainly referring to the "fans" and people on the outside looking in. I know most songs are being done by more than just two people.
