If you read Barry Jackson's sports buzz piece Sunday and listen to the whispers online, it is a foregone conclusion that Al Golden will be dismissed as head coach at the end of the season, barring some miracle where he wins out ( I have a better chance of winning powerball than this happening). Who should we target to bring us back to prominence brehs? My top 3 candidates are:

1) Butch "M'F" Davis - knows the program and history. Understands the local talent and has a great relationships with local coaches. Has a proven track record for identifying and developing NFL talent

2) Rob "Chud" Chudskinski - Offensive Coordinator on the 2001 National Championship team. Played tight end at the U.

3) Charlie "what was I thinking going to Texas" Strong - Charlie, just like Butch, understands local talent and coaches. Issue here would be if Texas buyout prohibits him from accepting another head coaching position so soon.

Butch or another HIGHLY experienced coach...

no more "shots in the dark" like Folden was...Spend the money once and hire someone good, not be cheap on front end then wind up paying more or dealing with more to make him stay...

I agree, the problem is scheme and coaching. Could you imagine our players in an agressive scheme. The good thing is that the team is still young, so a turn around next year is not out of the question.

Niccas saying Butch...first of all, Butch wasn't a great coach...Butch was a good recruiter with an excellent staff. It's a lot to ask a 64 year old man to assemble another great staff and recruit his ass off like he did even 5-6 years ago. Second, who is going to pay for Butch to get a great staff? What's the money pool for his assistants going to be? It's deeper than just paying the HC a certain amount of dollars. Programs like Bama, Michigan, LSU, A&M...they have millions they spend on assistant coaches and QC staff. Miami has to decide if they want to jump in and swim with the sharks or stay cheap...that's really all it is to it.

Chip's crossed my mind, right age and would dominate with FL recruits

now they could never pay half of what hes used to, but i dunno if hes money motivated. i dont want Strong (and think he'll get a 3rd year @ UT)

There was a lot of discussion on one of the Oklahoma boards about one of our former players, now coach that has next for a premier coaching job. Justin Fuente, current coach of the Memphis Tigers... Posters were saying that Miami would be the perfect place for him. He has the resume, credentials and success. This is all you need to know about Fuente.

2006-11: Started as a QB coach at TCU. Promoted to OC in 2009. Developed Andy Dalton(say what you want, but he got him drafted).

2011-Present: Took over a deplorable Memphis program and has turned it into, arguably, the best football program in the state of Tennessee. Finished with a 10-3 record last season that includes a conference title, and is currently 5-0 this season.

Fuente, if not this season, WILL NOT be available next season. Butch Jones is on the hot seat and the only reason they haven't fired him yet is because the contract payout is around 10 million for this season. Vol Nation will eat the losses this season, but another repeat season from Jones will probably get him ran out of Knoxville and the booster will probably eat whatever the cost is to get him out.

Also, Texas likes to snipe our coaching talent and will most definitely fire Strong if a suitable replacement is available. Texas will play the Saban lotto again, but don't be surprised if they go get Fuente. He would be a better choice in the eyes Texas(no muthafukkin pun intended... ugh.) Fuente is a (white) Latino (and not black) that will become an instant hit with the Latino fan base in Texas ($$$$$ is all they see) and if he's successful he'll become a God in Austin as the second former OU player, turned coach to dismantle our program's run of consistent success. If you're familiar with Texas football history, then you know why Oklahoma doesn't want Fuente at Texas.

Regardless, Justin Fuente will be a hot name in the coming season, maybe even weeks (especially if the upset Ole Miss in 2 weeks, which may happen). There is a chance that there will be coaching turnover, especially in the Big XII. Gundy may finally leave OSU for the right name and WVU is getting restless with Dana Holgorson. Fuente would be an upgrade for any program that doesn't have a Meyer, a Saban, or a (Bob) Stoops. Fuente won't be easy to obtain, but I'm sure a name like Miami and the talent rich state of Florida could entice any coach. He is waiting for a big name and has the credentials and luxury of waiting with the success he has had.

If Bob Stoops was on his way out, Justin Fuente would be the next coach at OU.
