"China was the largest contributor to emissions last year at 27 percent, with the U.S. following it at 15 percent and the 28 countries within the European Union at 10 percent, according to the report."

China is putting out nearly double the U.S.'s emissions? :picard::hhh:
There isnt nearly enough Chinese slander from the save the planet crowd.

edit: :snoop: I know some u.s./capitalism hater is gonna :cape:in with some per capita bullshyt to deflect from China's gross disregard for the future of mankind.

Actually. Number wise. That's pretty good.

US Population (high est.) 330M

China Population (low est.) 1.4B

China has over 4x population of the US and is producing 1.8x the pollution of the US.

If anything, it's still the US that's doing bad. :francis:

Or maybe we can just use the argument that we're America and we should lead by example instead of being a punk bytch and going but but but what about China, they do it so why should we change anything.

If "that's probally not good" is all you can muster to comment on what you are posting about, then maybe you shouldn't make the thread.

This example of sarcastic pessimism to no productive end is sad to see and a sign of weakness.

If you have an actual opinion on the matter articulate it, but this bytchy "get a load of this mess" attitude shouldn't be as common as it is.

Complain about someone else not posting a productive comment while doing the exact same thing, brehs.

The distribution of emissions is concentrated: 25 corporate and state producing entities account for 51% of global industrial GHG emissions. All 100 producers account for 71% of global industrial GHG emissions.

The highest emitting companies since 1988 that are investor-owned include: ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, Chevron, Peabody, Total, and BHP Billiton.

Key state-owned companies include Saudi Aramco, Gazprom, National Iranian Oil, Coal India, Pemex, and CNPC (PetroChina). Coal emissions from China are represented by the state, in which key state-owned producers include Shenhua Group, Datong Coal Mine Group, and China National Coal Group.

Climate Change is driven by the negative actions of MultiNat'l Corporations and State Interest. I can articulate why I don't think a Carbon Tax is the solution, and give Quotes like the one above that show how personal consumption isn't the driving force behind Climate Change.

I don't bring up topics that I don't care about, but if you look you will see there are plenty of low effort pessimistic threads on the Coli that don't create quality conversation and only serve to further weigh us down

China has over 1 billion residents. The U.S. has a little over 300 million. Of course China is going to have higher co2 emission rates.
The way in which humanity has set up its civilization to be centered around continuous growth, while simultaneously being dependent on a finite and destructive source of energy IS the problem. And the system of capitalism, whether you like it or not put us into the dire situation that we're in right now.

Perhaps there will be a market solution for climate change. I would certainly hope so. However, the window of time is getting smaller and smaller for solutions and we've already passed certain tipping points. At this point, if we continue along this path, we're headed for extinction. If we make abrupt changes we're still screwed but at least we have a chance to save the species. The bottom line is that we have to put a halt to this continuous growth and that goes against the very tenents of capitalism. If you have any other solutions please share.

:whoo:@ the ease you America haters use chinas goat herders and other poor non contributing citizenry to deflect. Truth is the Chinese polluters are an extremely small group.
Im gonna look for some numbers on how many of that billion live in rural(non contributing) areas, and get back to you.
Its also worth mentioning that as a communist country the Chinese government is wholly complicit...

So what should be done to address the issue?

Or should we all just continue to use this as an excuse to ignore the issue and screw over future generations?

All I ever hear from the right is "we shouldn't do anything because it's somebody else's fault" (or just straight up denial that it even exists) despite the fact that inaction is going to screw everybody.

No one says this:snoop:
We are leading all nations in reducing emissions... you actually want us to complain about being number one, and doing the most:snoop:

Again...
There isnt nearly enough Chinese slander from the save the planet crowd.

Thats all im saying.
