Passed Security + and CCNA and applied for helpdesk, IT support and did not get many results. I realize I may have to create some lab experience because I don't have any tech experience on there currently. 28 and my homies are starting MBA school in a couple of weeks and my shorty just hit on a 6 figure plus job with no grad school-she's in production and media. Here I am, English degree feeling like my career is not taking off like I want and then people are inviting me to homecoming and this and that and my homie goes to a big ten school and is inviting me to a couple college games in the fall and Im embarrassed to tell people I don't have the bread or I'm tryna stack.

On one hand, I'm thinking fukk it just apply for law school or something, on the other hand, with tech, I'm just paying for the certs, I don't have to take out loans etc but nothing is working for me right now. Even thought of doing uber eats on the side for some extra cash. Feeling like I don't know what to do tbh

Keep on pushing. Ignore homecoming for now. Just focus on yourself.

All it takes is one opportunity and getting in the door. If you need more lab experience work on that. Get more certs.

I wouldn't go the law school route. Unless it's a top 10 school you're signing up for more debt without guarantees of a fulfilling career.

I'm guessing I would have to use my lab work on my resume as sort of proof and experience since I have none, but how can that transition into help desk or support work?

Some people create virtual portfolios. Others rely on the technical interview to show proficiency. But either way, there is enough demand that lack of experience is not a disqualifier. And all it takes is that first job.

Not my field so take my advice w/ a grain of salt. But here's my perspective:

  1. I think for the first time in a while, you looked up and felt like you were behind your peers/girl. That doesn't mean it's time to make a grand change to your life. I know you are mulling around the idea of law school but don't sound to committed (yet anyways). I think the best short term low-risk high reward activity you can do is to reapply yourself to get some lab experience and then start applying for jobs in your current field again
  2. Don't look at it as "nothing is working for me" or frame it like everyone is winning but you. Instead look at it like, alright I've been chilling the last few years while others were grinding. If I want to get where they are, I have to put my head down and grind as well. That means turning down some invites or telling people you don't have it right now. Some of your friends that are stunting right now probably told you that didn't have it a few years ago as well but you completely forgot it.
  3. Keep applying to positions. The average person takes 21 to 80 job applications before they get a gig. Put your head down and grind. Don't take it personal. Just grind
